The UNESCO-Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) has identified the Center for Moderate Muslims (CMM) as one of the best case studies of Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) for Peace in Asia and the Pacific region, which can be applicable and adaptable to other regions.
APCEIU has devoted itself to promoting a Culture of Peace and building the capacities of the Member States of UNESCO in the region for Education for International Understanding (EIU) by organizing training workshops and seminars, producing and disseminating teaching materials and publications on EIU as well as strengthening the network with teachers, educators, civil society and other stakeholders in the region. In line with this, a field visit was carried out by representatives of UNESCO Philippines and APCIEU in the different CMM activity centers in Maharlika Village in Taguig City, led by Ms. Johanna Encabo (APCIEU, South Korea), Ms. Helen Balderrama and Ms. Emmy Yanga (UNESCO Philippines). They saw for themselves the CMM programs (Computer Literacy, Day Care, Madrasah-Montessori, Imam Training, and Women’s Livelihood and Values Training) and how Peace Education is implemented in various forms. They lauded the said projects as they presented a token of appreciation to CMM through its president, Comm. Taha M. Basman. |
