Observers see 2008 as a bumper year for the Center for Moderate Muslims (CMM). Its numerous mass-based services have attracted the keen eyes of philanthropic Groups from both local and international communities.
SHOM
Madam Rose Rasidi visited the CMM-Hamdani Day Care Center with officials of CMM and the Malaysian Embassy.
Madam Rosilawati Rasidi (wife of Ambassador Ahmad Rasidi Hazizi of Malaysia), representing the Spouses’ Heads of Mission (SHOM), visited the CMM facilities last May prior to the delivery of their donation of school uniforms to the CMM Day Care pupils for school year 2008-2009.
Meeting the pupils, teachers (asatidh) and parents of CMM Day Care and witnessing their activities in the classrooms, she related that their Organization has been helping other institutions, but this time she feels that a Madrasah would be a fitting beneficiary for their Group’s philanthropic activities. The CMM teachers, likewise, expressed the financial difficulties experienced by most of the families of the pupils, hence their donation will be very timely.
Madam Rasidi, together with the officers of CMM and the Malaysian Embassy, also visited the newly-acquired CMM Headquarters. She was briefed on the other CMM programs including Madrasah-Montessori education, livelihood training, scholarship project, computer literacy, youth weekly teach-ins, Imam training, Tartil (Qur’an Reading) and gift-giving activities courtesy of its various private individual and institutional donors.
OBMCCFI
After coordinating the visit of UNESCO Regional officials last March, together with the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines and CMM, Officers of the Operation Brotherhood Montessori Child and Community Foundation Incorporation (OBMCCFI) went back to the Muslim Community in Taguig through its donation of books and furniture for the CMM programs.
In simple ceremonies at their headquarters in Greenhills, Ms. Sarah Soliven-de Guzman, (Executive Vice-President, OBMCCFI) personally turned-over the book donations to Ms. Ann Basman (Executive Director, CMM). Witnessing the occasion were officials of OBMCCFI, including Ms. Concepcion Suarez and other CMM officials. “It has been the objective of OBMCCFI to be of help to the different communities in the country in terms of education,” according to Ms. De Guzman. In return, Ms. Basman expressed gratitude on behalf of the CMM beneficiaries in Taguig.
With the outpouring of support from various sectors, Comm. Taha M. Basman, CMM President, is closely monitoring the delivery of valuable services to the beneficiaries of the Center in all its offices nationwide. Its regional offices in Davao, Zamboanga City, Marawi City, and Jolo are reporting good feedbacks from their respective constituents. Other active Centers involved in these Programs are located in Cebu, Pampanga, and other Metro Manila Cities. These recent donations followed the previous assistance received from other sectors, such as the Saudi Embassy donation of copies of the Holy Qur’an, computer donations from Interfaith Leaders, school bags from Taguig City Mayor Freddie Tińga and many others.
Ms. Sarah Soliven-de Guzman hands over a sample of the books donated by OBCCFI. to Ms Ann Basman of CMM for the Muslim community in Taguig.
