AFP, PNP laud CMM Programs Print E-mail

        The various community services initiated by the Center for Moderate Muslims (CMM) nationwide, did not escape the keen eyes of the top Peace and Order Agencies of the Philippine Government – the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

        In formal ceremonies held at Camp Crame and Camp Aguinaldo, the accolades were presented to the CMM leadership.

        The Philippine National Police (PNP) Chaplain Service awarded a Plaque of Recognition during the celebration of its 16th Anniversary held at the Parade Grounds of the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame (more photos on page 2). The theme of the event was “Service to the Community is Service to God.” The award was given to Comm. Taha M. Basman in recognition of the CMMs effort to promote peace among Muslims and non-Muslims through its various projects like the Imam Training Program, Computer Literacy Project, Day Care Center, Women’s Livelihood Training, Youth Seminars and Sports Program and other activities all over the country.

        The Honorable Eddie "Among" Panlilio, Governor of the Province of Pampanga, bestowed the awards and was also its Guest of Honor and Speaker. PNP Chief, Police Director General Avelino Razon signed the beautiful Plaque of Appreciation.

        A parade in review of the other PNP units, complete with a marching band, ensued after the awarding ceremonies. The other awardees were the Peacemakers’ Circle, Bukas Loob Sa Diyos, and the Moral and Spiritual Transformation Evangelical Ministry Group.

        At an equally elaborate and formal celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the AFP Chaplaincy Services in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, Comm. Basman was also invited to be one of the Speakers. Together with other interfaith leaders, the roles of the beneficiaries of the AFP services - including the Muslims – were highlighted.

        The CMM was officially requested by the AFP to endorse Muslim applicants to the AFP Chaplaincy Services nationwide.
