Due to misimpression and misinformation peddled through the years about Mindanao and the Muslims, it is imperative that we exert an aggressive effort to spread more appropriate and correct information and facts about them.

            The Mindanao Research Institute is therefore both an information and an advocacy center on Peace in a multi-cultural and multi-sectoral setting such as the Philippines.

            The current growing interest on Muslim concerns not only in the academe but also in various fields of endeavor; and the consequent misinterpretation of Islam paved the way for the creation of the Mindanao Research Institute. Comm. Taha Basman, a staunch advocate of interfaith activities, is the main personality behind Mindanao Research Institute. Among others, his exposure as resource person on the subject of Islam in relation to a wide array of subject matters, made him realize the importance of such an office. As such, the Mindanao Research Institute serves as an information hub as well as a reading center, for anything on Islam, the Muslims, and Mindanao. The Mindanao Research Institute also hosts Fora/Symposia/Conferences, organizes Interfaith Dialogues, sponsors Sports activities for the Youth, and engages in lectures and tri-media discussion of issues relating to the Peace and Development of Mindanao, and the moderate teachings of Islam.
