Foundation in honor of late CMM founder established Print E-mail
In order to continue the legacy of service to the Muslim community, the family of the late CMM founder, Comm. Taha M. Basman, established a non-stock, non-profit foundation in his name. The foundation to be called “Taha M. Basman Memorial Islamic Foundation” or TMBMIF has been duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last June 2009. This foundation primarily aims to co-implement with CMM the latter’s community activities. These include the TMB-Hamdani Day Care Program, Computer Literacy Course, Tartil (Qur’an Reading), Weekly Youth Forum, Sunday Women’s Seminar, Imam Training Program and Livelihood Programs. It will continue to coordinate with government organizations (GOs) and non-government organizations (NGOs) in order to help implement abovementioned programs.

“With the wide network of generous friendships and partnerships (individual and institutional) Comm. Basman has established, Inshaallah, help will again reach our communities despite his passing,” according to his widow, Hadja Tahara Ann Basman, Chairman of the TMBMIF. “My children and I believe that everything that he has started for the community should be continued and not be wasted. With our humble means, and that of our family and friends, we will work hard to make these programs still available to our beneficiaries,” she added.

To further help generate funds for the operation of abovementioned activities, the three-year-old Madrasah-Montessori Learning Center (MMLC) has been strengthened to include primary school. The MMLC is now under the management of the TMBMIF.

Food for Thought

“…..The gap set up between the Muslims (Islam) and the rest of the world can be removed only by an open-minded approach to the Qur’an, Islam, and the Muslim situation. For a number of historical reasons, contact between the West and the Islamic World is increasing. The relationship must grow on a foundation of knowledge and objective understanding. In this period, bias and ignorance deserve to be seen more as a challenge to be overcome than obstacles to be helplessly lamented!...”
